Energiaklub has prepared and modelled, using the ‘EnergyPLAN’ energy planning software, the energy vision that offers a reassuring and in a number of respects better solution for meeting future energy demand without Paks II.
On 29 September 2016 the environmental license of the Paks II project was released by the environmental authority, the Government Office of Baranya County. Energiaklub together with Greenpeace Hungary will appeal against the decision.
’The study on the environmental impact of Paks II made by MVM Paks II. Zrt. does not specify the possible management of future waste and the future heat load of River Danube. This means that the most important natural impacts remain unclarified.’ reads the review of Energiaklub on the impacts of Paks II.

In November 2015 the European Commission opened an in-depth state aid investigation into Hungary's plans to provide financing for the construction of two new nuclear reactors in Paks. This gave interested third parties an opportunity to comment on the measure. Energiaklub has submitted its comments.
On 19 March Energiaklub together with The Greens/European Free Alliance organized a public hearing in the European Parliament in Brussels on the questions around the planned Hungarian nuclear plant, Paks II. Given the recent developments in the Paks-case, the hearing – jointly hosted by Rebecca Harms and Benedek Jávor – was given a special emphasis.
The planned financing of the new Paks nuclear plant constitutes an unlawful state aid, and breaches the European rule of law multiple times, says Energiaklub and Greenpeace. Therefore, Energiaklub filed a submission to the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission, asking them to investigate the subsidy plan the Hungarian government constructed, and to take the necessary measures if needed. Greenpeace also filed a complaint to the Commission back in April.
